Amazing Guest Lineup for FI 2012
With my favorite summer blockbuster, the Duke TIP Futures Institute, just a few weeks away, it’s worth an update to share some of the amazing folks who will be joining us via Skype to impart their insights and views on the future with thirty students who don’t yet know how great of an experience they will be stepping into.
Alongside a laser-equipped shark of an instructional team, we’ll be warmly welcoming:
- Ariel Waldman, founder of Spacehack.org, coordinator of Science Hack Days globally, and research affiliate with Institute For The Future. Ariel will also be a speaker at dConstruct in Brighton, UK in September.
- Christina Agapakis, a postdoctoral research fellow at UCLA interested in synthetic biology, bioenergy, social studies of science, and art/science collaboration. Christina also blogs for Scientific American, and will be a speaker at the upcoming 10 Conference.
- Steve Daniels, researcher, designer, and developer in IBM Research’s Social Computing Group, founder of A Better World by Design and Editor-in-Chief of Makeshift, a quarterly magazine and website about street-level innovation.
- Ann Poochareon and Mark Argo, interaction designers and founders of Aesthetec, an interactive experience company based on Toronto involved in amazing technological collaborations with museums, science centers, governments, and labs worldwide.
This should give you a sense of some of the cool topics we’ll be diving into—and building for—with this year’s class. Our focus will be on the future of some hot areas of science and technology innovation which have yet to be fully explored outside of Big R&D.
We’re very grateful for their time and can’t wait to beam them in. Stay tuned for some more mega-exciting news to be unveiled closer to time. For now, if you are interested in following our progress, you can tune into us on Twitter @Futures2012.
