Sneaking in on Christmas Eve, Quartz carries my short users guide to surviving the flood of Top Trends lists that gushes forth this time of year. Increasingly a parlor game that anyone can play, listing "predictions" for 2013 should be seen as just that—entertainment. But while these exercises are all fun and games for the amateur predictologists, these lists create sufficient noise as to crowd out actual, considered forecasts. The result is that the public has a hard time telling a year-long intelligence forecasting exercise from a marketing agency's blog post.
